FAQs

Below are answers to common questions for the member area of the St. Martin of Tours Academy Web site.

Can anyone access my data outside the school staff?
Your data is protected by secure connection and login technology utilizing the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security. It is the same connection that banks and other financial institutions use to protect your personal confidential information and transactions.

The security of nonpublic personal information is very important to us and we take a number of steps to protect it, both online and physical school files. We limit access to personal information only to those employees who need to know that information. We maintain procedural, electronic, and physical safeguards that comply with federal regulations used in online banking and financial institutions to guard your family's personal information online. We also require subcontractors with whom we do business on your behalf to maintain strong confidentiality practices.

We utilize encryption/security software called SSL to safeguard the confidentiality of personal information we collect from you and that you send to us via this secured area of our Website. The secure session is established using a secure and industry standard protocol called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Encryption. The SSL protocol is designed to not only ensure privacy but also to ensure that no other browser can "impersonate" your browser, nor alter or collect any information sent.

You can tell whether your browser is in secure mode by looking for the secured lock symbol at the bottom of your browser window.

Most of today's browsers offer 128-bit encryption which results in a large number of possible combinations. Our servers are compatible with browsers that provide 40-bit encryption, although we recommend the use of 128-bit capable browsers.

We want you to use our Site with confidence, knowing that the information you submit to us is secure. To verify that a page on our Site is secure, position the arrow of your mouse over a portion of the page where there is not a graphic image. Right click on your mouse and select the option that provides properties or information about the page being viewed (Note: The option title will vary by browser). The properties or page information section will indicate the encryption strength being used to view the secure page.

Are my e-mails to the school staff secure?
E-mails that you send to us are not secure. For that reason, we ask that you do not send confidential information such as Social Security or other personal student information to us through an e-mail.

How do I choose my password?
When you submit your password to set up your account, it is compared with the password we have stored in our secure data center.

Never use passwords that are easy to guess. Examples of bad passwords are: birth dates, first names, pet names, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers. Never reveal your password to another person. You should periodically change your password on the Change Password form.

Will you share my personal information?
We do not disclose your nonpublic personal information to any nonaffiliated third party except as permitted or required by law. Our policies for the information collected on this web site are the same for all information collected in writing at the front office.

We may share your nonpublic personal information as necessary to fulfill your requests, or in connection with processing student records. We may also share your nonpublic personal information with affiliated or nonaffiliated third parties in order for such other parties to perform business or professional services, such as printing, mailing services, data processing or analysis, or customer surveys, on our behalf or to otherwise assist us on your behalf, fulfilling your requests or protecting the security of your records. These companies are contractually restricted from disclosing the information received to other third parties and are not allowed to use your personally identifiable information except as necessary to carry out the purpose for which we disclosed such information. We may provide aggregate information about our registered community, Site traffic patterns and related Site information to reputable third parties, but this information will not include any nonpublic personal information.

If your student graduates from St. Martin of Tours Academy or you change schools, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as may be permitted or required by law.
